Huntington Station Downtown Revitalization Initiative
BJH was the project manager and prime consultant for the State of New York, managing a multi-disciplinary team that developed a Downtown Revitalization Strategic Action Plan for Huntington Station in the Town of Huntington, Nassau County, Long Island. BJH worked with the State and the Town of Huntington to develop investment strategies for ~$170 million in revitalization projects.
Huntington Station was selected for the initiative by the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council. BJH led a team in coordinating a committee of local stakeholders, executing public engagement events, studying existing conditions, and identifying projects to help bring about the revitalization of the downtown. Once projects were identified, BJH and its team prepared an implementation plan that identified the cost of the project, regulatory processes, and partners to implement each of the projects.
Projects included the redevelopment of sites for mixed-use affordable housing, transformation of outdoor spaces at the Huntington Public Library Station Branch to create open space and a play area, roadway and pedestrian improvements, creation of a small business facade and renovation grant fund, and the construction of a pedestrian walkway from the LIRR station.
